Tom and Cristy George are an inspiring picture of God’s grace and power amidst tragedy. They found themselves widowed in their marriages, both with newborn babies, and faced with the feeling of hopelessness. They learned to depend on God during their difficult process of grief and healing, and corresponded with one another long distance about the challenges that come with losing a spouse. Somewhere along the journey, they were surprised to fall in love and later were married in August 2002.
Tom and Cristy wrote Under The Shadow of the Almighty to serve as a guide to help others in grieving from a Christian perspective, as well as a record for their children to understand how God blended their families together. In a refreshingly transparent approach, Tom and Cristy share their chronology of e-mail letters starting at their introduction, continuing through their friendship, until their engagement. Understanding what it means to lose a spouse, they want others to know it is normal to have certain feelings and thoughts during the grief process. Tom brings a man’s perspective as he discusses the challenges of coping with a sudden death. Cristy brings a woman’s point of view as she shares how she dealt with a long-term illness. Under The Shadow of the Almighty has proven to be an encouragement for those facing trauma of many types and highlights the truth that God’s Word can bring healing in any situation. Cristy has provided trauma counseling to many, including firemen at ground zero in New York after the 9/11 disaster.
In experiencing great loss, Tom and Cristy have discovered life’s greatest priority and are dedicated to help fulfill the Great Commission. Their heart is to reach people in the 10/40 Window, which extends from 10 to 40 degrees north of the equator and spans the globe from Africa to eastern Asia, where many have never heard the Gospel message. They serve the ministry of Window International Network (WIN) as directors of WindowKids, where they develop an array of products designed to prepare the next generation to understand and pray for those in the 10/40 Window. Their desire is to build widows and orphans homes in India; a portion of proceeds from Under The Shadow of the Almighty will go toward that vision.
Tom and Cristy live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with their three children, Shannon, Amy and Parker, whom they home school together. They are active members of New Life Church where they teach children about the 10/40 Window. Most recently, they were guests on Aspiring Women, a television show featured on the Chicago-based Total Living Network.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
